Packin up to go!

Well, folks my magnificent journey in the Czech Republic is coming to a close, so I am shopping for souveneirs for my family and friends and packing my suitcase. Hopefully my suitcase will weigh the same 45 lbs it did on the way over here, other wise I am in trouble! I have come to realize that when your mother advises you to bring a better bag, its usually good to listen to her; my bag no longer zippers, so I have to buy a new one before I go home. The only terribly sad thing about leaving is that I will miss the Farniks and the Russian ice cream sandwiches...they are SO GOOD!!!!! Unfortunately I cannot bring them home for all of you to taste.:(

But I will be bringing home postcards, pictures and Czech cookies, candy and other food. Please pray for the team and myself as we fly back to the US on Wednesday and I fly back 7 am Thursday morning. Pray that God will give us strength and endurance as we deal with jetlag, as well as ¨help for us to be on time for connecting flights.

For those of you who are going to be at the last Sr. High Bible study, I will see you on Friday I hope. As for the rest of you, I will look forward to seeing you on Sunday!

Ahoj!

Ready, Set, Go!

The name of our VBS is Ready, Set, Go, and it mainly focuses on the fact that finding God is like finding a treasure. I was really encouraged today when one of the little girls in my preschool aged class, Tereza, asked what would happen is Jesus did not die for our sins. Most of the kids were just repeating the memory verse, Hebrews 11.1 and Ephesians 2.8-9, but once she asked the question, they were all curious. It was the first real discussion we had, and we had the kids from ages 3 to 6. We were so astounded that she would even ask that, we started answering her questions as fast as we could. So praise God for that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last night, we had a movie night with some Czech students, and I think it went really well, despite the language barrier.

Our VBS ends on Friday, and we will have the rest of the time to just able around Prague and go to random tourist places. I know that one day, we are going to a concentration camp, so that will probably take place on Monday or Tuesday. Wednesday we will fly back to the States, and I will spend the night at the Winslow's house, to fly out on Thursday morning.

Please pray for our safety while touring, and that the messages we taught the Czech kids will stick.

Ahoj! (Hi to a friend)

Well, I made it! I am here in Zbraslav, which is a tiny little village on the outskirts of Prague, at the Farniks house. We left LAX on Monday at 6pm California time, then flew to Heathrow airport in London on a flight that was about 10 hours long. Fortunately, one of the girls on my team is just as crazy as I am, so I had someone to be silly with without disturbing anyone else. I have to make this semi=short, because the rest of my team is also wanting to use the Farniks laptop, but I will note the important details.

Once we got to Prague, at 6pm local time on Tuesday(which is 5 hours ahead of all of you in PA,) we met up with Autumn, the Farniks middle child, and Mr. Farnik. Then we split in half an I took the bus and metro with Autumn and 3 other girls while everyone else went in the Farniks van with all our luggage. After getting lost a couple of times, we finally made it to the Farniks house and had a REALLY REALLY good dinner made by Mrs. Farnik. We left early the next morning to catch a few busses to Prachatice, which is a small town at the base of the Sumava mountains, and toured for a while before going to Dobra Voda (Good Water) where we were until Saturday helping out with a conference on how to resolve conflicts biblically.

Our job was basically to take care of the Czech parents kids, most of whom did not speak English, while they attended the conference. We were teaching the kids about God and how He is the treasure that we look for our entire lives, with the help of translators of course. It was really difficult because we had only 5 translators and about 40 Czech speaking kids who needed instruction. But thanks to God for allowing some of the kids and parents to know a few words in English. My favorite fart of this last week was the last two days, when I was not the sole caretaker of Kubik, a one-year old Czech baby. I was able to spend the last two days with two small Czech girls, Terezé and Anezka both about 3 or 4, and teach them English words.

This week we will be teaching another VBS in Prague, which the Czechs call Praha, to a group of non-Christian kids. Since they have had little, if any exposure to the gospel, we would like to ask for you to pray for us as we try to teach them about God. And also thank God that we got here safely and that we got to see some of Prague and will continue to see more of it as the weeks pass. Safety is also a very important issue in Prague, as it is a very common place for pickpocketing, so prayer for that as well. I found out that I cannot upload pictures from this laptop, so that will have to wait until I get back to the States, but I will also be doing a presentation on August 31st in the adult Sunday school at church, so you can look at them then!
Čau čau! (bye,bye to friend)

A Day of Rest...where I actually DID rest!

Alright, today I was woken up by the sound of my phone vibrating on the dresser at 6 AM California time-my mother was texting me. After going back to sleep for about 2 hours, I got up, and got ready to leave the house for worship at the Winslow's home church, Westminster OPC in, shock of all shocks, Westminster, CA. I found out, once I started being introduced to the members, that their church also sent a group to Haiti. The Winslow's daughter, Marcie went. After church there was a fellowship lunch for the Winslows and another family, so I talked to a lot of people about how I live in Lancaster, with the Amish people....which was amusing. Hopefully, I'll be able to upload some more pictures while in Prague, but, if not I'll upload them when I get back. And also hopefully I will have figured out how to put the text in between the pictures by then as well.

Tomorrow night, 6PM CA time, our flight takes off for London where we have a 2 hour layover and then on to Prague! We will arrive in Prague on Tuesday and get settled in until Wednesday, when we will stat our VBS with approximately 30 Christian kids in the Sumava mountains. After that, we will head back to the city to worship with the Farniks at their church in Prague. Monday through Friday will be our second week of VBC, this time in the actual city of Prague and that will be with a group of non-Christian kids, so extra prayer would be helpful. I'm not totally sure what we'll be doing on the Saturdays, but hopefully we'll get to see some of the city. We will fly from Prague on Wednesday, the 13th, and get home the same day to LA. From there we will all drive back to Orange County where I will stay the night at the Winslows again, and then fly out in the morning.

Please, please, please, pray for us, we are DEFINITELY going to need it, especially with my Czech language skills being that of a wild monkey.

Pictures....in the air, and on the beach, in CA

Here are the pictures I have taken so far...

CALIFORNIA!!!!!!!

Well, I made it! And I didn't get lost in the airports, or forget my luggage anywhere. I'm staying with my team leaders, Mr. amd Mrs. Winslow at their house in Orange County California. Once I found Mrs. Winslow at the baggage claim, which was a bit difficult because I didn't know what she looked like, we ran some errands and then came back to their house and made dinner. After devotions, we went to the beach and got some ice cream. Here are some pictures I took today while on random planes and the beach. Well, they're not here yet, but I'll figure out a way to get them here!

Now boarding!

Well, I'm getting ready to go to the Phadphia airport where I will fly to Santa Ana CA to meet my team. Please pray for the safety of my flight and that the team would mesh together well. Next time I post I'll be in Prague!!!!!

Cya'll!!!!!!
